The first show in 2012 was brought to us by The Remainers. They performed last Monday night at the Silverlake Lounge and had a great set. There is where I met a Canadian blogger, Amanda. Her blog is about health and wellness. It was nice to meet another blogger who also has a great taste in music. p.s. I've attached The Remainers' first video. Sunny Thursday was spent shopping on Melrose Avenue and attending The Remainer's show at the Key Club. Before doing all these things, however, I was encouraged to try a new hairstyle for the summer. I stumbled upon jean greige's blog and saw her turorials on how to braid assymetrical. I liked it so much that I was willing to try it (I got compliments on the hair do). We headed down to Melrose because I wanted to pay a visit to Wasteland and browse around for some new items (didn't find anything apealing). Particularly, I was looking for some crochet shorts that I have seen on many girls on the blogs that I follow, which I found at a store called World Plus (you don't pay taxes in that store...isn't that cool?). In addition to this new item, I also purchased a vintage Gucci bag from a vintage store named Retro Reload. Some people's trash is someone else's treasure (posts to come soon). The Remainers were scheduled to play at the Key Club and like a major fan/friend, I attended. They just keep getting better and better, seriously. It's a shame that they only play for like 30 minutes. We all wanted an encore. I learned how to do this braid by following jean greige's tutorial. my brother's legs Melrose shop I think we are going to this event. Reason being: it's been a hectic week. Work, work, work...that's all it is now days. Anywho, since my last post, a lot has been going on. The Remainers were number 1 on Kroq's Locals Only show (yay!)...all thanks to everyone who voted and supported. To celebrate they played a free gig at O'Briens Pub in Venice and it was a pretty good show. Stuffy and sweaty, but a good set. Secondly, Patrice and me saw "Bridesmaids" and it was hilarious. I recommend everyone to go see that film. I promise you will laugh your pants off. Thirdly, visited my old campus to run a couple of errands. Lastly, had a date night with the mister. We went to The Waffle on Sunset. p.s. Easter finally arrived!I decided to spend my first half with John and had lunch at The Local Place in Torrance, a King's Hawaiian Restaurant. Their Hawaiian Fried Chicken plate was awesome! I highly recommend it. After eating, I headed to my sister's house to see my nephew and help with their egg hunt. It was good to hang out with my nephew and my sisters...it's been a while since we've all come together. In other news, at 9:37 pm on Sunday, April 24th, KROQ aired "House" by The Remainers as part of their Locals Only show. They are also part of a poll and they need your help. You can vote for them here (scroll all the way down and select "House"). Another Thursday, another day off. While John is in Nashville, TN, my day started by watching Friday Night Lights Season 1 while getting ready for my day(outfit is below). I literally had nothing planned except for visiting my parent's home. While visiting my folks, I checked my phone for new notifications. I received an exciting fwd e-mail from my dear friend Jason. The e-mail stated that KROQ will be playing The Remainer's song "House" this Sunday, April 24th as part of the "Locals Only" show with Kat Corbett. I was super excited and proud of the band for their success. I can't wait for what's to come for this band. They deserve everything and more! As the sun was the setting, it was time to leave home and drive back to my cozy little room. I then checked Facebook and saw my friends (Jeremy, John, and Matt) were checked in at South Coast Soccer City and I immediately rushed to support them. (I kept meaning to attend a match and I finally had free time.) It was a very fast paced game and the team really needed to put more work. Although they lost the match, I know they will come through with a W soon. jacket: Cotton On; shirt: H&M; skirt, necklace, earings: Forever21; sandals: Target, clutch: American Apparel photos by Jesse V and me. John was scheduled a graveyard shift, which meant we had to make the most of our daytime. Aside from going to the auto shop for my smog check (which took forever), we relaxed at his house and picked up a cup of frozen yogurt. When the evening arrived, it was time to go see The Remainers at Bootleg Theater along with all of our friends. Sidon & Mariposa John rinsing his car. The Remainers opened up for The Smiths Indeed (a Smiths tribute band) on Tuesday at The Satellite, formerly known as Spaceland. The set list was the same as the last show, nevertheless, it sounded better. The Satellite has a cool stage, dandy lighting and the set-up of the venue made the show very enjoyable that all of the band members' energy was wooing the crowd (a lot of them were head bobbing. Oh and they also have a photo booth, a pool table).
The Remainers also announced that proceeds from their album sales (of that night) will be donated to help Japan (so admirable). The Remainers played at the Silverlake Lounge Thursday night following an all girl band from Minneapolis called Is/Is. Both bands played well, however The Remainers really put on a great show. The energy from all the band members including Nate (vocalist), Frank (keyboards), Kaumyar (drums) and Jason (bassist) was stunning. The crowd was definitely enjoying good live music. They played all of their Formal Friday EP plus a few new songs. My favorite tracks are "When You Need Me" and "House."
Some of Jason and my friends joined me as part of the crowd and supported the band. Next show is March 15th at The Satellite and we will be there. |
